Dr. Al Ozonoff
Al Ozonoff works at the intersection of infectious disease surveillance, vaccine science, and pediatric health. He is Senior Director of Pandemic Preparedness at the Broad Institute and Managing Director of Sentinel, a genomic surveillance program in West Africa. He holds appointments as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and faculty scientist in the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children's Hospital.
Trained in mathematics and biostatistics, Al has spent over 20 years investigating methods to detect and monitor health and disease across clinical and public health settings. His early research involved novel statistical methods for geographic surveillance of disease clusters and outbreaks, and his work has since spanned infectious disease surveillance, patient safety, healthcare quality, and immunology, with a consistent focus on data systems that support timely, informed decisions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the Clinical and Data Coordinating Center for IMPACC, a national NIH-funded immunophenotyping study. He contributes to international pediatric health and vaccine safety efforts through leadership roles with the Penta Foundation and the INSIS vaccine safety network, with a consistent focus on data systems, spanning basic methods to real-world applications.
