Dr. Mohamed Bakarr
Dr Mohamed Bakarr is currently a Manager in the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat in Washington DC, with responsibility for integrated programming and knowledge management. He oversees all GEF programming designed to advance holistic and integrated solutions to global environmental challenges. During his more than 17 years in the GEF, he has helped to shape how GEF financing to countries can influence transformative changes in systems that drive environmental degradation. Dr Bakarr has expertise in a broad range of issues related to the tropics, but focuses mainly on linkages among biodiversity conservation, agriculture and human livelihoods. He previously worked at Conservation International in various capacities, and at the World Agroforestry Centre as Director of Strategic Initiatives. He holds a B.Sc. (Ed) in Biological Sciences from Njala University in his native Sierra Leone, and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Tropical Ecology from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida.
