Mr. Ahmadou Aly Mbaye

Ahmadou Aly Mbaye is a senior development economist, academic leader, and policy practitioner with over 25 years of experience across senior government advisory roles, multilateral institutions, global think tanks, and university leadership. He served as Vice Chancellor (President) of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, where he led one of Africa’s largest public universities, strengthened institutional governance, expanded practice-oriented graduate education, recruited and mentored faculty and senior practitioners, and deepened strategic partnerships with international universities, governments, and development partners.

Ahmadou Aly Mbaye is also an internationally recognized expert in development economics, governance, employment and informality, climate change, energy transition, international development finance, and trade policy. He is widely known for his ability to translate rigorous empirical research into actionable policy and development solutions. He brings extensive experience in graduate-level teaching, executive education, policy advising, and program leadership. Across his career, he has demonstrated a distinctive capacity to lead interdisciplinary, professionally oriented academic programs that advance inclusive economic growth, human development, and effective governance in low- and middle-income countries.
